THE ESSENTIALS

-
Versatile scoring tool in the shape of a metal rib.
-
Looks like a USB stick!
-
Holds like a pencil.
Extras
-
This kit includes an excellent selection of tools that have been mentioned in both the “essentials” and “extras” sections…. trimming tools, a scoring tool, and some additional blending/sculpting tools that are handy when attaching things like handles!
-
This is the most popular style of trimming tool and typically comes in most trimming tool sets. They’re a great option for beginners!
-
These are typically used to trim smaller areas of your pieces, such as the foot.
-
These are typically used at an intermediate level due to the way they handle (they remove clay at a more aggressive rate). They’re efficient at trimming down larger areas of your pieces.
-
Ribs are essential in wheel throwing. They’re an all around versatile smoothing, compressing, and shaping tool that comes in different sizes and softnesses. A definite upgrade from the metal rib in the general tool kit you will have!
YELLOW / SIZE #1 / BEAN SHAPED = The most versatile!
-
You may want to invest in a high quality sponge that evenly holds water and assists in throwing much better than the sponge in the general tool kit.
SUPER ABSORBANT SPONGE = this is an all-purpose sponge that can be used to throw with any clay body.

FINISHING SPONGE = Excellent for finishing work, final details, and clean-up of surfaces. It won’t pull out grog or other materials in the clay body. Think of it as a chammy.
-
Makeup sponges are a VERY affordable alternative to the finishing sponge option above. They’re excellent for finishing work, final details, and clean-up of surfaces without roughing up your clay surface!
